Floracaching: Have fun finding plants and help scientists.
- Get the Android BudBurst Mobile app.
- View the "hidden" plants around you on a map or by direction or description.
- Track it down, snap a photo, and get points!
Floracaching is a game like geocaching, but the difference is you find a plant that's been "hidden" using the BudBurst Mobile app for Android phones and help scientists track climate change!
Games motivate people to participate and getting people outside to have fun, while increasing their awareness of the plants around them, is one of the motivations of Floracaching. In addition, every time someone "captures" a floracache, important data about plant responses to local climate and global climate change are recorded.
Groups, such as college campuses and botanical gardens, can set up specific lists of plants for people to observe using the BudBurst Mobile app. They can also define areas where they have control over establishing Floracaches, so they can target individual plants for community monitoring. Contact us [email: egraham "at" cens.ucla.edu] if you are interested in setting up a special plant list or area for Floracaches.
The Project BudBurst community of citizen scientists is made up of thousands of people from different walks of life dedicated to collecting data on our changing environment. Floracaching is one more way that anyone can both have fun and contribute to important climate change research!
